Macau records lower mass-market revenue as gaming tax receipts rise
By The Weekly Edge desk ·
Macau’s casino figures showed differing trends across revenue categories and reporting periods. Government figures showed third-quarter mass-market gross gaming revenue, including slots, fell 5.2% year on year, while slot revenue rose 18.8%. CLSA forecast an 11% annual decline in sector EBITDA for the quarter, reporting that higher visitor numbers were not generating additional gross gaming revenue. 12
UBS channel checks estimated average daily casino revenue at approximately MOP729m for 5–11 October, above September’s daily average despite softer high-end gambling activity. Gaming tax receipts reached MOP74.56bn in January–September, up 5.9%, although September receipts fell 1.6%. 34
Authorities recorded 1,951 gaming-related criminal cases over the first nine months, a 12.3% annual increase. Prosecutor general Tong Hio Fong proposed changes to gambling-linked currency exchange legislation, saying evidence of a single exchange could fall short of establishing commercial activity.
