Index methodology

How EDGE40 and its sector sub-indexes are calculated.

Prices and some financials: Yahoo Finance; US filings: SEC EDGAR; FX: ECB

Universe and constituents

Listed companies whose main business is gambling: online and retail operators, B2B suppliers and platforms, lotteries, affiliates and media, sports data providers and casino groups, as listed on our gaming stocks page. A company joins an index once it has a price history covering the base date. Sub-index membership follows our sector classification, with sports data providers (e.g. Sportradar, Genius Sports) included in B2B suppliers & platforms; only EDGE US is a thematic basket. Excluded for insufficient history: none.

  • EDGE40 — The Weekly Edge benchmark: all listed gambling companies we track
  • EDGE Operators — Online and retail betting and gaming operators
  • EDGE Tech — B2B suppliers, platforms and sports data
  • EDGE Lotto — Lottery operators
  • EDGE Media — Affiliates and gambling media
  • EDGE US — US online sports betting and iGaming

Weighting

Constituents are weighted by free-float market capitalisation (free-float shares × price, converted to EUR), with each constituent capped at 15% and the excess redistributed pro rata. Where the cap cannot bind because an index has fewer than seven members, the cap rises to equal weight. If free-float data is unavailable for any member, that index is equal-weighted. Share counts are the latest available and are applied at each rebalance.

Rebalancing and calculation

Weights are reset quarterly on the first trading day of January, April, July and October. Between rebalances the index moves with constituent prices adjusted for splits and dividends (a total-return basis), so special dividends and share consolidations do not distort the series. Base value 1,000 on 2025-01-02.

Currency

Prices are converted to EUR daily using European Central Bank euro reference rates (forward-filled on non-publication days). London prices quoted in pence are converted to pounds.

Data sources
