By The Weekly Edge desk ·

Summary

The ANJL says Brazil's ban on online betting has led to more than 3,500 job losses and contract terminations, with 4,167 staff on collective leave and 5,600 job losses projected within 90 days. Two cap makers in Rio Grande do Norte's Seridó region estimate R$ 2.95 million in cancelled orders, including a 300,000-piece order from Esportes da Sorte worth R$ 2.1 million. The firms also supply Betnacional and Sportingbet, and the wider effect on employment and income has not yet been measured.

Why it matters

The reported job losses and cancelled supplier orders show the ban’s immediate costs for workers and cap makers.
