Finland threatens €1.2m fines in illegal gambling marketing crackdown

By The Weekly Edge desk ·

Summary

Finland's Gambling Administration, part of the National Police Board, says it has issued four prohibition decisions and six conditional fines this year over illegal gambling marketing under the Lotteries Act. Conditional fines range from €30,000 to €200,000 for individuals and €100,000 to €1.2 million for companies, with actual payments from individuals of €20,000 to €100,000 where bans were ignored. The board points to a rise in unlawful promotion on social media and live streams, while the market is due to open to licensed operators in July 2027.

Why it matters

The decisions and conditional fines show how Finland is enforcing its ban on unlawful gambling promotion.
